REPRISE.
— A photography exhibition by Thomas Ling at Hither & Yon supporting SALA Festival.
Reprise is a body of work that examines our connection to the ocean as a shared cultural space, and its role in shaping identity and community. Grounded in South Australia’s coastal environments, the work invites viewers to reflect on these relationships against an underlying sense of environmental vulnerability, shaped by human impact and ecological uncertainty. Rather than depicting overt destruction, the work foregrounds moments of connection, pause, and collective use, encouraging a reconsideration of how we value and engage with environments that hold deep cultural and emotional significance. In a time of increasing disconnection, Reprise also reflects on the ocean’s role as a site of gathering and belonging. The project forms part of an ongoing body of work documenting how coastal spaces, both natural and manmade, function as emotionally resonant environments for those who inhabit and move through them.
